About the drive to Sahiwal

Sahiwal lies east of Multan on the N-5, the old Grand Trunk route, passing Khanewal, Mian Channu and Chichawatni through farmland and market towns. The drive is about three hours, with more towns and crossings along the way than the motorway routes.

Families travel to Sahiwal for weddings and visits, and many people combine it with a stop at Harappa, one of the great cities of the Indus Valley Civilisation, about 25 km before Sahiwal. With a driver you can take your time at the site and continue without worrying about directions.

  • A town-to-town highway

    Unlike the motorways, the N-5 passes through several towns. It is a good road, but speeds are lower and markets can slow traffic in the afternoon.

  • Stop at Harappa

    The Harappa archaeological site and museum is just off the route before Sahiwal. Allow one to two hours if you would like to visit.

  • Winter fog

    In December and January dense fog can settle over this stretch in the early morning. We prefer later departures on foggy days for safety.
