Route
West from Multan across the Indus at Ghazi Ghat to Dera Ghazi Khan, the gateway to the Koh-e-Suleman range and Fort Munro.
The road to Dera Ghazi Khan heads west on the N-70 through Muzaffargarh, then crosses the Indus on the long Ghazi Ghat bridge. It is under 100 km, but town traffic in Muzaffargarh and the river crossing mean it usually takes around two hours.
D.G. Khan is a regional centre for the western districts, so the trip is common for court dates, hospital visits, family events and government work. It is also the last city before the N-70 climbs into the Suleman range towards Fort Munro and Balochistan.
The Ghazi Ghat bridge is one of the main Indus crossings in South Punjab. Traffic can slow near the bridge and in Muzaffargarh, so allow extra time for fixed appointments.
If you are going on to Fort Munro or Sakhi Sarwar, book the full trip from Multan. An SUV handles the mountain road better than a small car.
In July and August heavy rain can affect low-lying roads near the river. We check conditions before departure and will tell you if timing needs to change.
