Route
A short drive south-east across the Sutlej to Bahawalpur, the old princely capital, known for its palaces, the Cholistan desert and Islamia University.
Bahawalpur is close enough for an easy day trip: roughly 100 km south-east of Multan, crossing the Sutlej, usually under two hours each way. Many of our passengers are students and families visiting the Islamia University of Bahawalpur, or people heading to the city's hospitals and government offices.
It is also one of the best sightseeing trips from Multan. The white palaces of the former Bahawalpur state, Noor Mahal and Darbar Mahal, are in the city itself, and Lal Suhanra National Park and the edge of the Cholistan desert are a short drive further.
Under two hours each way leaves a full day in Bahawalpur, so most people book a car with driver for the day rather than one way.
Derawar Fort sits deep in the Cholistan desert, well beyond Bahawalpur on desert tracks. If it is on your list, tell us in advance so we suggest an SUV and an early start.
From May to August midday temperatures here regularly pass 45°C. Plan sightseeing for the morning and evening; all our cars are air-conditioned.
