About the drive to Fort Munro

Fort Munro is South Punjab's hill station, high in the Suleman range on the border with Balochistan. From Multan the N-70 runs west to Dera Ghazi Khan, then climbs through a long series of hairpin bends to the top. Allow around four hours, longer in holiday traffic.

In summer it is a welcome break from the heat of the plains, and in winter the hills sometimes get snow. Families come for the cool air, the views over the valley and the lake. The drive up is beautiful, so it is worth doing in daylight.

Travel notes

  • Mountain road

The final climb is a winding mountain road with steep hairpins. We recommend an SUV and an experienced driver, and plan the climb for daylight.

  • Pack warm clothes

Fort Munro can be noticeably cooler than Multan, even in summer evenings. From December to February it can be cold, and there is sometimes snow.

  • Holiday crowds

On Eid and long weekends the road and the hilltop can be crowded. Start early to avoid the queues on the climb.

  • Weather and road closures

Heavy rain or snow can occasionally close the mountain section. We check conditions before departure and will tell you if plans need to change.

Multan to Fort Munro: questions

Is a normal car OK for Fort Munro?
Sedans do make the trip, but the hairpin climb is much more comfortable in an SUV, especially with a full car. We recommend the Fortuner or Prado.
Can we do Fort Munro as a day trip from Multan?
Yes, if you start early. Around four hours each way leaves a few hours at the top, though many families prefer to stay a night.
Does it snow at Fort Munro?
Occasionally, in the coldest weeks of winter. If snow is forecast we check whether the road is open before you set off.
Can we stop at Sakhi Sarwar on the way?
Yes. Sakhi Sarwar is close to the route beyond D.G. Khan. Mention it when you book so the time is planned in.
