Route
Multan to Rawalpindi and Islamabad by motorway in about six hours, via the M-4 and M-2 through the Salt Range.
The longest of our regular routes, Multan to Rawalpindi is motorway nearly all the way: the M-4 north to Pindi Bhattian, then the M-2 through the Salt Range to Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Plan for around six hours with a meal break.
This trip is usually booked for embassy and visa appointments in Islamabad, flights from Islamabad International Airport, family visits in Rawalpindi, and onward holidays to Murree and the northern areas. For a drive this long, a comfortable sedan or SUV and an experienced driver make a real difference.
Between Kallar Kahar and the Balkassar area the M-2 climbs through the Salt Range with long gradients. It is well engineered, but it is the most demanding part of the drive.
The Bhera service area on the M-2 is the classic midway stop, with food, fuel and prayer facilities.
Embassy appointments in Islamabad are often early. Many travellers leave Multan the evening before; tell us your appointment time and we plan the best option.
If you are going on to Murree or the north, tell us when you book. Mountain roads need an SUV and different driver arrangements.
